An 18-year-old man was killed in a shooting in Wilmington, Del. on Memorial Day — three years after his older brother was fatally shot nearby.
Two other young people were also wounded in the shooting on Monday.
Yazir Tickles was identified Tuesday morning as the deceased victim. The other victims were identified only as a 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy.
Police responded around 7:30 p.m. Monday to a shooting in the 2700 block of Thatcher Street. They arrived to find the three victims suffering from gunshot wounds, with Tickles and the 17-year-old in critical condition, according to the Wilmington Police Department. The 21-year-old was reported to be in stable condition.
No suspects have been arrested or identified in the case, and police did not provide any further details.
“This incident remains under investigation and further details will be released when possible,” Wilmington police wrote in an online update.
Almost exactly three years ago, Tickles’ older brother, Dmajah Tickles, 19 at the time, was killed less than a mile away on May 19, 2021. In March 2022, Tramont Mitchell, then 35, was arrested and charged with his murder.
Though Thatcher Street runs for barely a mile through Wilmington’s Riverside neighborhood, it has been the site of at least three shootings in recent years.
